LOVE SALT LIFE // WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY IN SPETSES, GREECE
STEFANIE & SERGIO–
THIS INTIMATE SAILBOAT WEDDING IN SPETSES, GREECE CELEBRATED ALL THINGS PATTERN
Ah, the new twenties! How bold they entered and what major change of plans they had in stock for most of us. This wedding celebration, however, defied every odd and landed the couple and their guests with a truly spectacular way to say I do, one that definitely had us rethink minimalism and embrace eclecticism!Much like so many other couples around the globe, Stephanie & Sergio had been spending months in creating a celebration plan- one, long, pre-COVID journey in the making- that involved flying their families and friends all the way from the U.S. and Italy to Spetses, Greece, and vowing their love in all its glory. In a friend’s Instagram post announcing the new measures, contrary to what one might expect, Stephanie found inspiration, not to cancel nor postpone the wedding, which would also mark the couple’s 5th anniversary, but instead go forward and re-design the entire affair into something intimate yet truly meaningful. “Up to this point our wedding had felt like a go, go, go for quite some time, but when we got to slow down, and discuss with Anjie about all that was absolutely important to us, the more we talked about it, the more we realized we are finally choosing our personal connection and determination over a superlative fete,” Stephanie told me during one of our Skype calls, remembering her conversation with her wedding planner. I knew exactly what she meant. Although Greece went out of lockdown relatively soon, Stephanie and Sergio still wanted to take every measure to heart and make their wedding as safe as possible for their company, while being able to celebrate uninterrupted. To that, Anjie suggested a marvelous wooden sailboat, exemplary of Greek craftsmanship, actually a trademark of Spetses and the couple’s wedding destination. The island’s long naval tradition and the fascination towards the annual Classic Yacht regatta were after all one of the reasons the couple had chosen to marry there, as Sergio’s business evolves around antique and classic boats. The ceremony took place on the pier with weaved baskets overflowing with flowers and two candle pillars in the same floral design were placed instead of an arch. Soon as Steph and Sergio had exchanged their vows, they boarded their sailboat for a cruise & party across the Argolic Gulf. The scheme was a celebration of hues and patterns: Meditteranean and Delfts Blau motifs were strewn across the furnishings, fabrics, and the wedding cake, were paired to colorful bougainvillea foliage and lemons. Breezy tableware carrying the floral theme melded with sea-urchin textures (one of the couple’s signature dishes) shells, and agates, while the entire design was topped by Greek summer blooms and impressive colorful arrangements, which gave the boat reception an up-to-date whimsical note, and wowed the guests.
